Stormforge Steam Demo Goes Live — PvE Survival Crafting Fest (Aug 31, 2026)

Roboto Games dropped Stormforge's first fully public demo on August 31, 2026 during Steam's PvE Survival Crafting Fest. What's in it, what's missing, and how it maps to the road to Early Access.

Last updated: 2026-08-31

Roboto Games released Stormforge's first fully-public Steam demo on August 31, 2026, timed to Steam's PvE Survival Crafting Fest (Aug 31 – Sept 7, 2026) (COGconnected). This is the largest public slice of the game to date and the first time anyone outside the July closed playtest could play without a sign-up.

Short version: Three of five classes (Warrior, Mage, Ranger), the Meadows biome, a poison-infused forest with the first dungeons, one boss encounter, and early looks at building, gliding, and sailing. Up to 8-player coop across all of it. Free download from Steam while the fest is running.

Timing and how to grab it

  • Fest window: August 31 – September 7, 2026.
  • Where: The demo is a free download from the Stormforge Steam page — no separate playtest sign-up required for this build.
  • Platform: Windows 10/11 64-bit only.

Whether the demo stays downloadable after Sept 7 depends on Roboto's post-fest plans. Steam demos sometimes remain public and sometimes gate behind a new sign-up.

What's playable

Per COGconnected's coverage:

  • Three character classes: Warrior, Mage, Ranger.
  • The Meadows biome — starting area, designed to teach the storm loop.
  • A poison-infused forest biome with the demo's first dungeons.
  • One boss encounter in the forest.
  • The building system — enough to see the storm-defense loop.
  • Early looks at gliding and sailing — traversal systems that pay off more at scale in the full game.
  • Coop for up to 8 players across all of the above.

For a practical walkthrough — which class to pick, how to survive the first hour, boss-fight notes — see the Stormforge Steam demo guide.

What's not in this build

Setting expectations by what's missing rather than by what's promised:

  • Two of the five classes — Forager and Villager are not playable in the demo.
  • The Mountain biome — planned for post-EA per the Steam page.
  • Most of the 100+ points of interest on Sorana — the demo is a bounded slice.
  • Modding — Steam Workshop and the level editor are not wired into the demo.
  • Dedicated server hosting — coop is Steam-invite-only for the demo.
  • The full skill tree — capped for the demo scope.

None of these are red flags; they're normal demo scoping. The full classes overview covers what's known about Forager and Villager.

How this compares to the July playtest

The July 2026 closed playtest (MonsterVine) covered similar core survival mechanics, three classes, and dynamic storms — but was gated behind a Steam sign-up rather than a free public download. The August demo is a broader public step: same core scope, no sign-up friction, timed to Steam's genre fest for discovery.

If you were in the July playtest, the demo isn't strictly new content — it's the same slice with a bigger audience and a demo tag rather than a playtest tag. Notes and feedback from July have presumably fed into this build, but Roboto hasn't published a detailed changelog.

Road to Early Access

Where this fits in the release chain:

  • July 2026 — closed playtest wraps.
  • Aug 31 – Sept 7, 2026 — public Steam demo (this build).
  • Additional playtests likely — Roboto's pattern is iterative public testing. Sign up at playstormforge.com to be notified.
  • Early Access — "later in 2026" per Roboto's statements (Gematsu, Massively Overpowered).
  • EA duration — approximately one year to 1.0, variable (Stormforge on Steam).

Where to send feedback

The official Discord is where developer attention actually lives day-to-day, and where in-game feedback surveys route. Steam Community forums work but are lower-signal. Concrete, replicable reports get a response; ranting rarely does.
